Our Kid Talent Ltd FAQ’s For Parents
1. What does a children’s talent agency do?
A children’s talent agency represents young performers, helping them find and secure professional work in TV, film, commercials, theatre, voiceover and photographic projects. We act as the link between your child and casting directors, production companies, and brands.
2. What types of work could my child be put forward for?
Depending on your child’s age, look, and skills, they may be submitted for acting roles, commercials, modelling campaigns, TV series, feature films, theatre productions, or voiceover work.
3. What is the application process?
Parents can apply on the APPLY page on the website or contact us at apply@ourkidtalent.com with clear, recent photos of their child and some basic details such as age, height and interests. If we feel that your child may be suitable, we’ll invite you to record a self-tape, and maybe a short meeting so we can get to know them better.
4. Do you charge a registration or joining fee?
We do not charge upfront joining fees. There may be optional costs for professional headshots or online profile hosting (such as Spotlight). These costs are not payable to OurKid and will always be discussed before you commit to them.
5. What is Spotlight and does my child need to be on it?
Spotlight: The Home of Casting is the UK’s leading professional casting platform used by casting directors and agents to find performers for roles.
Children over the age of 4 can usually be registered on Spotlight’s Young Performer database through the agency. We recommend it for most children, as it increases visibility and access to more professional opportunities. Cost is £12.18 a month, £134.70 for the year
6. How do castings and auditions work?
When your child is shortlisted for a role, we’ll contact you with the details of the audition or self-tape. You’ll receive information about the role, location, and what’s required. Castings can take place in person or online. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through each step.
7. Are parents required to attend castings and jobs?
Yes. A parent/guardian or licensed chaperone must accompany a child to all auditions and jobs. Parents are responsible for ensuring their child arrives safely and on time.
*Please be aware that for legal reasons, if a parent isn’t available to accompany a child to a job, it must be a licensed chaperone that takes their place, not another family member or friend. If a parent isn’t available, along with the production company running the job, we will help find a suitable chaperone.
8. How are children protected on set?
All productions working with children must comply with UK Child Performance regulations. This includes using licensed chaperones, limiting working hours, ensuring appropriate rest breaks, and working in safe, supervised environments. The welfare of every child is always the top priority.
9. Does my child need a performance licence?
Yes, if your child is booked for paid or professional work, they’ll need a child performance licence issued by your local council. We handle most of the paperwork for you, but you’ll need to provide proof of schooling, a birth certificate, and a photo.
It might be worth contacting your child’s school ahead of time to let them know about this new adventure your child is on, and keep them up to date, in case we need their help with licensing further down the line. Most schools and LEA’s see this as an amazing opportunity for your child.
10. How does payment work?
We pay you once we (the agency) have received payment for the job from the production company. Payment times can vary depending on the client, but we will always chase outstanding fees on your behalf.
11. Does the agency take commission?
Yes, we take a small percentage from each paid job. This covers the work involved in submitting, negotiating, and managing contracts for your child.
12. Are there any other costs I should be aware of?
Apart from optional professional photos and Spotlight membership (if applicable), there should be no additional or hidden fees. Travel to castings is usually at the parent’s expense, unless otherwise stated.
13. How often will my child be expected to work?
Children’s amount of work is varied — some may book several jobs a year, while others may work occasionally. We can never guarantee work, but we’ll do our best to submit your child for all suitable opportunities.
14. What if my child can’t attend a casting or job?
Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is unavailable or unwell. We’ll inform the casting team and do our best to rearrange if appropriate.
15. How often should we update my child’s photos and details?
It’s important to keep your child’s profile current as children change quickly! We recommend updating headshots and measurements frequently if your child’s look changes significantly.
It’s worth keeping those up to date measurements to hand when going for castings, as they tend to be required on most casting forms.
16. Can my child be with more than one agency?
No. Most reputable agencies in the UK work on an exclusive basis to avoid double submissions for the same roles. This ensures clear communication with casting directors and avoids conflicts.
17. Can we share photos or details of castings on social media?
Please do not share any confidential casting information or on-set photos without permission. Once the project has been released, we’ll advise when it’s appropriate to share your child’s work publicly.
18. Who should I contact if I have questions or concerns?
You can always contact us directly by phone or email during office hours. We aim to respond promptly to all queries and keep communication open and supportive.
19. What happens if my child no longer wants to be part of the agency?
We completely understand that children’s interests can change. If you wish to end representation, simply let us know in writing, and we’ll remove your child’s details from our system, but please let us know if there are moving on to a different agent, as this could affect any on going contracts.
